Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
