Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows where players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where many players get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same approach in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem difficult at the start, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing range of betting choices and because you have many individuals battling for the high, as well as several battling for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
