Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in these particular card games while playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and moved to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he would play countless hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus more on poker.
The real improvement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would frequently challenge one another. Howard had access into a few of the foremost players in chess. With their help, he would tweak his cunning thinking techniques. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker world today. Howard Lederer moved to Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
