Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
