Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players in the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world may be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money games?
